I’ve tried few different solutions, until I found this entry in some Chinese forums (thanks Google for translations, and sorry forgot the source). To make Windows see these devices (Audio device on High Definition audio bus) follow step below:
the steps:
Download this software : kb888111xp2.exeOpen Regedit and go to :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
Find CSDVersion Key
Legend:
100 (hex) means its SP1
200 (hex) means its SP2
300 (hex) means its SP3
Change CSDVersion from 300 to 200 and Restart
Install kb888111xp2.exe (Microsoft UAA Patch)
Change CSDVersion back to 300.
Restart
Install device drivers
Enjoy :)
Tested and Worked for : Realtek HD, Audio Devices HD, Onboard AMD(ATI) x1250 video and modem Windows XP drivers.
Update 1:
Apparently Microsoft forgot in include UAA support in SP3 driver database.
Besides solution above you might want to try this: User Modified kb888111 patch fixed for Service Pack 3 .

Update3:
Websense Security thinks my website is Malicious and my best guess is because one of links I gave for kb888111xp2 patch was pointing to Rapid-share, which I guess makes my site assumed automatically to be malicious by Websense…
I tried to convince them multiple times, but I guess convincing doesn’t work as they are assigned me with “Malicious” label yet again.
As Alternative mirror you can download the file below. Extract it to temp folder and inside under MSHDQFE\Win2K_XP\us you’ll have it.

I'm glad it was useful to you.
BSA YOU ARE A KING!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH. SAVED ME ALOT OF HEADACHES. HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION FOR DAYS.
Thanks!!! You are a god! In case other people are looking for this, it fixed my HP laptop with Conexant HD Audio. Got the patch from Hydrogen Audio: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=47079
I checked the registry and 200 is already set. I too have a Conexant HD Audio device on an HP. I've contacted HP and they want me to reinstall.
I've also tried removing the KB888111 patch by running the SP uninstall string and deleting the registry key. I'm not sure what else to do to make this thing work
If you HD audio still doesn't work, check out this solution:
I have an uncompressed folder & files, but no set up program. How do you initiate the installation of the patch?
Frankly i didn't tested user modified KB888111 for the SP3, but I assume right click on hdaudio.inf and choose "Install" should do the trick or otherwise follow the reg modifying method - its proven - works!
Thank you very much from Russia=)

I format and setup windows in an HP laptop more than 5 times with diferent sp3 distribution cd's. Nothing seemed to work. If you where here i would kiss you. Thanks a lot mate!

Merci beaucoup

I love you !!! Two days of pure agony and now this fixed everything in 5 minutes. Thank you.
Thank you.
This fixed my audio problem on my Lenovo. Can hear the sounds from my system now. However, I just found out now that the microphone does not work.
When I receive a call or test sound from Skype, Mic is being muted and i have no idea how it happened. I just know it is muted because while my volume control is open, the Muted checkbox under Mic properties suddenly is ticked.
When i record audio through some software like Audacity, Mic also turns to be muted automatically so it does not record anything.
When I open Realtek HD Audio Manager from systray, it shows from Audio I/O tab, microphone is like disabled or disconnected marked by a red dot (instead of green for output).
Can't find the solution to this yet. Hope you could help. Thanks in advance.
@Vonnhugo
I dunno if these links helps but try anyways:
http://www.rm.com/Support/TechnicalArticle.asp?cref=TEC949416
and
http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-38366-p-2.html
also keep in mind to have latest Realtek Drivers installed.
thanks for the quick response. I forgot that being red or pink tells where mic should be connected. Pink/red for input. Green for output. LOL.
I will look into the links you have sent. :)
My bad. I'm really laughing at my mistakes here.
The simple solution is to turn on Microphone or Audio input from Mixer Tab of Realtek HD Audio Manager. Hmmm... Weird that it is muted by default.
Good lord!
You're a saviour!
I can hear sounds now.. but there's still 1 thing...
Under device manager > other devices, there's still a big yellow "?" over Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus... What can seem to be the problem? I've arleady installed the Realtek drivers.. but now this.. any tips/info for it?
@terence
Right click on "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" device -> Properties->Details
Under first entry Device Instance Id
there should be something like:
PCI\VEN_11111&DEV_111111
Use contact Bored sysadmin link to send me email with that info or simply google it yourself and you'll find who's the maker of this mysterious device and maybe it's model,,,
Hi BSA, I came across this post while searching for a way to get my sound card to work. This isn't exactly my problem (in fact I tried the fix, with no luck), but you seem like you might know enough to help me out.
I reinstalled XP with a slipstreamed SP3 disk, and downloaded all the necessary drivers from Dell, based on my service tag number. Everything installed fine, except my sound card, which isn't even detected by Windows. However, in the boot diagnostics, my speakers work fine, so I'm certain it's a software problem, and more specifically a windows problem.
Device Manager shows that Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio is present, and installing the drivers from Dell adds a SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec, and a couple of hidden Creative drivers... nothing which suggests an actual device though. Most importantly, it does NOT detect any unknown (question-marked) devices which might be a sound card.
The soundcard detected in the BIOS setup is a SigmaTel 9200.
At this point, I've officially run out of ideas. I've tried installing a number of different drivers... Conexant, Realtek, Intel, based on different suggestions I've found on the web, as well as played with the order of installation of the Sigmatel and Creative drivers in relation to each other and to the chipset drivers from Dell.
I understand if you don't care to do tech support for me, but at this point my remaining solution is to buy an external soundcard, so I figure I might as well ask. I'll gladly provide any additional info you might need.
Hey Bismuth, I not really sure if this can help you, but I'd give a chance...
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&message.id=5711#M5711
plus check if this can help you:
http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1965
Unfortunately, my PnP SD Emulator driver is installed and working, and that second link focuses mostly on Vista, but thanks for replying anyway. It sounds like there are a ton of problems with Sigmatel drivers... in all my searching, I must have seen a couple dozen unique problems; unfortunately mine seems to be the most unique, as I have only found one other post with the exact same symptoms.
If I had known how much time I'd be investing in trying to fix this thing, I would have just bought a new card right away...
thank you...work like charm...:)
Thanks a lot BSA, u r realy great.
That's so amazing, it works !! the trick in changing the regist. value :)

High Definition Audio problem.
KB835221 solves the problem without registry editing.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835221
But audio device disappears after reboot. I have to restart UAA bus at every boot with help of .bat
devcon.exe restart "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E&SUBSYS_30F4103C&REV_03"
I've chose KB888111 with registry editing for more modern driver version
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111/
Truly yours from Russia
reg4(at)nm(dot)ru
@Max,
Both hotfixes you gave link to not relevant for SP3, and registry edit is only needed for sp3.
KB888111 is limited distribution hot fix and it is NOT provided by MS support site, only by 3rd party vendors.
My solution doesn't require complicated workarounds like manually forcing UAA device to restart.
Thank u so much :). I'have search during two days before to find ur post.
Thank you one more time :)

Hey, while this post isn't directly discussing this issue, you might want to check links on this forum post and help troubleshoot your issue. I feel like I might write a separate post about it later on.

I have the HP G50.
My audio will work on a reboot, but it will not work after coming out of a suspend.
Any ideas?

In XP SP3 i don get the HD audio control. only the normal audio control is coming.. the KB******SP2.EXE patch is included in the IDT software itself. Bored SysAdmin, I am impressed. What a clever fix! I was able to remote into my sister's computer and perform the fix as you described. Worked like a charm. I can't emphasize how much you rock :) Thanks again.

I HAVE SOUND NOW
I HAVE READ COMMENTS ON THIS FORUM AND I'M HIGHLY IMPRESSED WITH THE NEWS OF SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS. BUT I NEED ASSISTANCE. MY ACER ASPIRE 5715Z NOTEBOOK PRODUCES NO SOUND. IT REQUESTS FOR MICROSOFT UAA BUS DRIVER FOR HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO. I'VE TRIED MANY LINKS WITHOUT SUCCESS. AT PRESENT, I'M USING WIN XP SP2 AFTER REMOVING VISTA SOME COUPLE OF WEEKS BACK. CAN ANYONE HELP ME GET THIS UAA HD AUDIO BUS DRIVER? I APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE.
please if anyone knows how to help me solve the problem of UAA BUS DRIVER FOR HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO FOR ACER ASPIRE 5715Z NOTEBOOK, RUNNING WINDOWS XP SP2,PLEASE FORWARD IT TO nyereugo2k3@yahoo.com. I APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORT. THANKS.
Hey Anon, Have you tried grabbing drivers from intel link i gave?
As Alternative mirror you can download the file below. Extract it to temp folder and inside under MSHDQFE\Win2K_XP\us you’ll have it.
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/7525/engAUD_ALLOS_XP_VISTA_5377_PV_REALTEK.exe
ive tried doing the above steps and have been successful in getting sound. HOWEVER, anytime i go into hibernation or suspend, the audio stops working and must reboot to solve the problem :S
Can anyone help with this at all?
Hi, I will get sound using either kb835221 or kb888111xpsp2 with Chinese reg edit of service pack version id.
BUT after restart the drivers have disappeared... The UAA installs...The hardware is found and I can install the idt HD inf file. After restart it is all gone and I have to do it again. I have a HP DV4. That HP driver you posted for another module will not work. Yellow exclamation mark. I have downloaded a similar service pack intended for my model dv4-1248tx - "sp41616". This can only be installed after having reinstalled kb888111xpsp2. But it will also disappear after restart.
grcias brother gracias te debo una
I have a Compaq Presario V3804AU and I've encountered the same problem. I tried your solution and it worked like magic. The sound worked again and it worked the next morning. After I turned off my laptop that morning and tried to work on it again afterward, Windows (again) failed to detect my device. There's a error message saying something like: no active mixer detected... I'm really desperate and run out of solutions.
You should make a video tutorial PLEASE MAKE IT i dont know what to do
